Support The Alaska Whale Foundation

To achieve our research, conservation and education objectives, Alaska Whale Foundation requires the help of individuals like you. There are a variety of ways in which you can get involved and be a part of the AWF team.

Monetary gifts:

AWF is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization recognized by the Internal Revenue Service of the United States; donations by US taxpayers are entirely tax deductible. As well, with low administration costs and overhead fees, you can rest assured that your monetary gifts will go directly towards supporting the various research and conservation programs. To make a monetary donation, you can use your credit card through our secure PayPal account, or by using our mail-in form.

In-kind donations:

We are presently developing an equipment wish-list. Please check back soon for more details. In the meantime, if you have equipment that you think might be an asset to our program, please let us know.

Volunteer your time:

We are always looking for individuals that are willing to volunteer their time. As a boat-based research organization operating in the challenging marine climate of Southeast Alaska, we are often in need of people with shipwright skills, general boat maintenance skills, engine mechanic skills, and captain experience. As well, to ensure that we are achieving our goals as a non-profit as efficiently as possible, we would love to meet with people that have experience in non-profit law and accounting. Assistance with data and image management, especially with the matching of fluke IDs, is also sought. If you or someone you know would like to volunteer your time, please contact us

Field internships:

We rely heavily on volunteers and interns to conduct our field research. Participation can range from short, week-long stints to full-season positions. Individuals often participate in photo-identification, whale behavioral observations, fluke matching, theodolite-tracking, acoustic work and prey sampling. Work can be either boat-based or from our research station at the Five Finger’s Lighthouse (aka Rapunzel Project). contact us for more information.
