About Alaska Whale Foundation

Alaska Whale Foundation is a US Federal Government approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1995. The esteemed scientists and mariners who comprise AWF's board of directors, officers, and collaborators give their time to the organization on a volunteer basis; there are no salaried positions in AWF at this time. We also depend on the generous volunteers who unselfishly give their time to help AWF in countless ways. We feature some of these special people on our volunteers page. Core members of AWF have had a research presence in Southeast Alaska going back to the early 1980's. AWF is the only research group in Southeast Alaska that lives and operates from their vessels throughout the summer field season. We have a small fleet of vessels that we use to support our research efforts. Our vessels are:
